Retail Assistant Shop Managers required
Cardiff, Barry and Penarth
Salary £12.00 per hour + benefits

City Hospice is looking to expand its retail team. We are looking to recruit Assistant Store Managers across our 6 retail stores in Cardiff, Barry and Penarth. A variety of hours from full to part time are available.

City Hospice benefits from an experienced Board of Trustees, a team of highly motivated clinical and support staff, approximately 375 volunteers, a modern Hospice Centre and substantial financial reserves. City Hospice is undertaking ambitious plans to significantly increase income from all sources, including its retail operations, by expanding the supporter base and appealing to new audiences, increasing participation in existing and new fundraising events, and developing the scope of individual giving and corporate sponsorship.

The post-holder will assist the store manager to manage a busy charity store, one of the 6 operated by City Hospice in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. The post holder is expected to aid the store manager to achieve challenging sales targets, help recruit and effectively manage a team of volunteers and placements, promote local awareness of the charity, promote customer service excellence, and maintain high standards throughout the store at all times.

Retail Assistant Shop Manager - The Role:

Stock donations and processing

  • To be responsible in supporting the store manager with generating sufficient stock donations through pro-active and positive relationships with the local community and businesses.
  • To support all aspects of the stock handling process, ensuring that all team members maintain high stock standards and process the targeted amount of good quality donated stock to ensure the store achieves sales revenue.
  • To always maintain excellent display and merchandising standards.
  • To support the store manager with implementing effective and competitive pricing in store, within the guidelines provided.
  • To ensure City Hospice branding guidelines are adhered to, ensuring that only officially issued 'Point of Sale' devices are displayed within the store and in the store window and instore.
  • To limit the amount of store wastage wherever possible, ensuring unused or recycled products are disposed of through the officially designated channels.

Volunteers

  • Make contact and maintain professional relationships with City Hospice Volunteer Manager and external agencies as necessary to help support the recruitment of volunteers and other unpaid staff.
  • To help create a positive and fulfilling environment for all team members.
  • To support the store manager to recruit, train and manage volunteers - ensuring that they are competent to carry out the duties required of them.
  • To provide regular and meaningful feedback to volunteers, ensuring that performance issues are addressed at an early stage - providing support and a positive framework to help volunteers improve performance. Provide positive feedback and recognition for performance achievement.
  • To regulate a rota, ensuring that sufficient cover is available, ensuring that leave is planned effectively in the absence of the store manager.

Security & Health/Safety

  • To adhere to the Procedure Manual at all times, ensuring that the till reconciliation and banking is completed each day, reporting any issues to line management immediately and taking any resultant action as necessary.
  • Preparation and submission of necessary paperwork, meeting stated deadlines.
  • To undertake daily health & safety checks, as directed and to be the appointed first aid contact within the store in the absence of the store manager.
  • To manage within the guidelines of all City Hospice policies and procedures.
  • To be responsible for key holding and banking.

Additional Items

  • To attend meetings and training sessions as requested.
  • On occasions to work above contracted hours, for example to cover absence for sickness or holidays.
  • Travel to other stores and City Hospice facilities if required.
  • To fulfil mutually agreed additional duties when necessary
  • Make decisions within clearly defined and agreed delegated authority

Training

  • Participate in any statutory and mandatory training in line with City Hospice policy
  • Take part in the Individual Performance Review process
