how to cut retail recruitment costs

CUTTING RETAIL RECRUITMENT COSTS

RETAIL RECRUITMENT ISSUES

A national home retail group is working with several agencies on standard ‘% of salary’ fee structures. They are finding it difficult to forecast accurate recruitment costs across a number of different roles.

Additionally the candidate advice from some agencies seems to be motivated by the opportunity to inflate their own commissions - not to help the company make the best decisions.

In consultation with C2 Recruitment they explained that their staff attrition was not high but with new stores opening throughout the UK they needed to achieve a number of outcomes:

  • To be able to accurately forecast recruitment costs

  • To develop a better relationship with a preferred supplier they could take advice from

  • If possible to reduce recruitment costs

WHAT WE DID

As a consultancy we know all about the importance of accurate forecasting and managing costs and suggested the following as a solution:

  • A dedicated account manager to really get to know their business

  • A fixed fee system so the client paid for the role not the salary

  • A reduced fee structure in return for 2 week exclusives on their vacancies

SUCCESS

This system was implemented and over the first year, as well as knowing exactly how much each hire will cost, the company have reduced their recruitment spend by just over 50%.
In addition, because they have a dedicated account manager who works on a set fee basis rather than commission, they know when a higher salary is suggested it’s not because it impacts on commission; it’s because C2 have their interests at heart.

At C2 Retail Recruitment we're as passionate about retail as you, so we go out of our way to understand your business. We want to understand the unique combination of skills and attitudes your people need to succeed.
